StockPlay – December 22nd

December 22nd, 2008 Nintendo Wii Review No comments
Stock Play is a weekly look into how video game shares have been performing on the market. Each week we’ll take a look at a variety of hardware and console manufacturers, retailers, and game developers and how their stock price has fluctuated in the past week. Last week’s big losers were Ubisoft, who lost 31% of their share value, and Take-Two, whose failure to meet expected earnings brought the share down 36%. Speculation of an Eidos buyout brought the share up 20%, but they were the only sto

Why I switched to the OLPC—and why I dropped it

November 4th, 2008 Nintendo Wii Review No comments
Not Free at Any Price Richard Stallman blames Windows for the failure of the OLPC project. Teaching children to use Windows is like teaching them to smoke tobacco—in a world where only one company sells tobacco. I love RMS and his cranky militant F/OSS-ness, but he’s tragically off base in his assertion that OLPC retreat from free software into Windows is the main culprit. Granted, I share his disdain for proprietary computing platforms (in principle, as I must confess that I’m writing th

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Failure
Didn’t work as advertised. Wii cuts out randomly several moments into gameplay, can’t spin up a disc properly. I took my wii back to the US and it worked perfectly. Clearly the power adapter isn’t doing the job over here.

5 Stars Perfect for expat’s/GIs
This inexpensive adaptor allows you to run your Nintendo WII on any world-wide voltage. It does not overheat. Excellent buy!

5 Stars works just fine
This item works just fine on 220V outside the USA. Its smaller and lighter than the original power supply, and MUCH better than using a 220-120 stepdown transformer.

5 Stars Worked like a charm
This was the cheapest of the selection on amazon at the time for me with shipping and handling.

It has worked like a charm. I keep this one with my living room TV, and I keep my old one in my bedroom. This allows me to simply bring the Wii downstairs without having to carry any of the cords, or unplug any. If you want to do this, you will need extra A/V cords and an extra sensor bar; both can be bought cheap here on amazon.

Success of Nintendo has surprised everyone. On a contrary Wii availability for Nintendo seems to be difficult task. Amazon and eBay are expensive. Michael Pachter says Nintendo s pricing is wrong.

Iwata interview: Nintendo Boss’s fear of being fired

Nintendo's boss Satoru Iwata says he was worried about getting fired about a possible Wii-failure after the console launched. In the same interview he claims that he "understands that people felt disappointed" at E3 - meaning the hardcore crowd and referring to the lack of core games.

FEATURE: What’s a “Core Gamer” Anyway?

[Originally posted by TDrag27 at 2old2play.] Nintendo has been taking heat since last week’s e3 performance. Truth be told, they’ve been taking heat for some time from die-hard Nintendo Fanboys. The press briefing announcing titles such as Shaun White Snowboarding, Animal Crossing, and Wii Sports Resort continues to highlight Nintendo’s failure to enchant the hardcore Nintendo gamers. The question of “what about us?” has colored the bulk of the articles following the event. An interesting di
